The Hunger Games - Review by Jake Koyl

Book review: The Hunger Games
In the book The Hunger Games there are twelve districts and then the almighty capitol. Every year the twelve districts have to pay tribute to the capitol by sending one girl and one boy into the arena. The main character Catniss volunteered so her younger sister wouldn’t have to go. Now Catniss has to fight for her life with her hunting abilities but also by keeping up a fake romance with another contender from district twelve, the same district she’s from.
Suzanne Collins did a really good job at describing the difference in wealth between the twelve districts and the capitol. The capitol has tall and sophisticated looking buildings and people wearing bright colored clothes with strange hair styles, while the outer districts like district twelve have shacks as houses and the people survive day to day.
Collins also did an amazing job at portraying the characters and the way they feel about the games and one another. One character she goes into the greatest detail about is Catniss and how she feels about her best friend Gale and her supposed lover, Peeta. When Collins displays the characters emotions in the book she makes me wonder if these characters are based on real people.
This book is a thriller the whole way though, it always keeps you on your toes while reading. I couldn’t stop reading this book. It had me hooked from chapter one. This book is great for any age and it’s especially great for a boy because of the suspenseful times in the arena. Any girl would love it too because it has a romantic flare to it. So this book is a good read and it appeals to everyone, therefore I strongly recommend this book to everyone.
